All you need is love.

All I can say is WOW. If you have not yet seen Across The Universe you are missing out on something truly extraordinary. This movie was amazing in ways that I can not even describe.

It is a musical based on The Beatles songbook and set in the 60s in England, America, and Vietnam. The love story of Lucy and Jude is intertwined with the anti-war movement and social protests of the 60s. Over 30 Beatles' songs are woven into the plot together with visual allusions to films Help! (1965), A Hard Day's Night (1964), Magical Mystery Tour (1967) {TV}, Yellow Submarine (1968) and Let It Be (1970). Amid the turbulent years of anti-war protest, the struggle for free speech and civil rights, mind exploration and rock and roll- the at once gritty, whimsical and highly theatrical story moves from high schools and universities in Massachusetts, Princeton and Ohio to the Lower East Side of Manhattan, the Detroit riots, Vietnam and the dockyards of Liverpool. {IMDB}

Roger Ebert gave Across The Universe four stars raving that it 'sounds like a concept that might be behind its time, but I believe in yesterday.'

{Sadie: Where'd she come from? Jude: She came in through the bathroom window.}

I have been a Beatles fan my entire life. I began watching this movie not sure if I would love the renditions or if they wouldn't even live up to the legend that is the Beatles. I was so pleasantly surprised at the talent of the cast and everyone involved with this movie. The songs were done so well and integrated with the movie beautifully- that I was able to appreciate their same quality, but in a new way. Ebert says 'the beauty is in the execution. The experience of the movie is joyous. I don't even want to know about anybody who complains they aren't hearing 'the real Beatles.' [...] These songs are now more than 40 years old, some of them, and are timeless, and hearing these unexpected talents singing them (yes, and Bono, Izzard and Cocker, too) only underlines their astonishing quality.'
I just can't say enough of this soundtrack. I am going out on my lunch break today to buy the deluxe version- you can hear it here. I had no idea that Evan Rachel Wood was even a singer, but you could tell during the movie that she was no lip-syncer. She was truly incredible and deserves many props for her performance. As well as of course Joe Anderson, Dana Fuchs, Martin Luther, Jim Sturgess and of course the likes of Bono and Eddie Izzard.

And now back to my personal favorite- Jim Sturgess! Who the heck does he think he is stealing my heart like that? I am sad to say that this was the first I have seen or heard of Sturgess and was shocked to see his wide array of tv movies and lately a lot of big-time movies, such as The Other Boleyn Girl and landing another lead role in 21. {both of which I will now see for sure.} Between his accent, his hair, his voice, and just his overall presence- he is definitely someone that I will follow from now on. :)

{JoJo: Music's the only thing that makes sense anymore, man. Play it loud enough, it keeps the demons away.}

I'm begging you to see this movie if you haven't already done so. I promise that you will not be disappointed.

For Tonight You're Only Here To Know.

Where do I even start? Last night's OTH skipped all the bullshit and headed straight for my heart. By far, my favorite episode of the season so far. So reminiscent of the past seasons- that you couldn't help but put the peices together, understand it, and yet see how significantly they have all grown. Did I mention how hilarious some of the scenes were, how adorable Jamie was, and how great the music was?? No- I didn't even get that far yet!

One of my favorite scences was the boys locker room before the game... how they have all bonded with Jamie, especially Quentin. And then of course the slow motion walk from the locker room to the gym- Jamie leading all the way. ADORABLE....

Obviously, the girls ::being trapped in the library and all:: had their share of significant moments as well. I'm glad that they were all able to open up and let out what has been going on for all of them. I'm also glad that Peyton was able to step up and the be the person that I know she is- even though it was so hard for her. And I adored both Brooke and Haley last night.

But my favorite scene by a land slide last night is pictured below. When Nathan was talking to Lucas about telling Haley the truth about Carrie because he loves her and she deserves to know. And then mentioning how erie it is that they took down Dan's jersey. But that he doesn't want to be a father like Dan was, he wants to be a father how Jamie thinks that he is. This scene absolutely made me melt- I was bawling like a baby.

This entire episode brought back so many memories from the previous seasons and really connected everything together. Of course seeing Tim again was a nice surprise- but getting everything out about the school shooting and Jimmy and Keith. It just all made sense and I loved it.

I hope that you all had a chance to watch this great episode. Here is a link to a scene from last night's episode- showing Peyton, Brooke, Haley, Mouth, Lindsey & Mia all singing "Wish You Were Here" from Kate Veogele's new album. Did I mention Bethany singing?? YAY! And of course hardly any scenes with Carrie- oh except the one where she puts in her 2 weeks!!!- that really made my night. :)

I love books...

...and bookcases. How fabulous is this?

We really don't have enough space in our current home to devot an entire wall to books... but I can't wait until we do. My favorite part is the various objects randomly placed among the books.

I also really love the ones that are built-in or at least appear to be. But don't you just love how that first one frames the door? I think that is so unique and I love the way it looks. Anyway... I'll be keeping these images... hopefully our next home will enough room to do this!

This whole scarf thing has been driving me crazy.. so I've been searching and searching and finally came across this on good 'ol ebay...

It is practically identical and in a very versatile beige-like color. BUT the absolute best part- is that is was only $19 with shipping! Whoo-Hoo!! :) I'm so very excited.

Jordan over at Oh Happy Day posted about this scarf that she got on sale at Anthropologie today...

...and I recognized it right away! It is none other than the infamous scarf of Bethany Joy's that spontaneously makes appearances wrapped around Haley on OTH!!

I was flipping out! I have looked for this scarf high and low since season 3 with no luck and now I finally know where it originated- of course at one of my favorite stores! But what's even sadder, is that it isn't online and the closest Anthro to me is over an hour away. Oh... maybe it will be a weekend trip. :) I'm sure the hubby would go for that one! HaHa. But isn't it gorgeous???

New banner.

I'm sure you also noticed the new blog banner. The old one was a bit boring so I quick whipped this one up- however don't be surprised if you notice it changing several times before I find one that suits us. :) But DO expect to see a hummingbird in all of them. I have always loved hummingbirds and what they symbolize.. I just find them absolutely beautiful. Enjoy!

Post Weekend Wrap-Up.

1. First and foremost-- I am sick of the cold and the snow.

2. Good Luck Chuck was cute. I give it 3 out of 5 stars because it made me laugh, but was definitely lacking in some areas. However, Alba's wardrobe was to-die-for! I love this ensemble below.

3. We heart hanging out with Andrew and Stacey -- usually just doing nothing. :)

4. No matter how many times I see Steel Magnolias I still bawl like a baby every time.

5. "There is nothing like staying home for real comfort." - Jane Austen.

6. I want - scratch that - I need to get an iPod Touch soon.

7. PostSecret is my new favorite blog. ::thanks Stacey::

8. I love Coldstone's Birthday Cake Remix, so much in fact that I crave it when it is 20 below zero.

9. I'm a big crier lately. I don't know why or usually how to stop it, but lately I find myself crying over the tiniest, stupid things- even sappy television commercials?

10. Two of my favorites- Cameron Diaz and Katherine Heigl, both looked absolutely stunning at the Oscars last night. But really, when don't they?

Happy Friday.

Friday, February 22, 2008

Some things that made me smile this week... especially this lovely print from jzroszell :: my favorite baked macaroni & cheese recipe from :: Little Earthquakes by Jennifer Weiner that I just finished reading this week- made my heart melt :: my tiny heart necklace from F21 that I wear with everything :: amazing Aveda soothing bath salts that I use every night :: enjoying my gigantic bottle of Merlot that Brian gave me on Valentine’s :: the bird outside my bathroom window-who boldly made his way back to the Midwest in February-that chirps every morning while I’m showering, sending my mind racing into Spring :: the lingering scent of my favorite L’Occitane Eau de 4 Reines eau de toilette :: my Starbucks gift card I have been savoring since Christmas (but not the fact that is had dwindled down so much this week.)

And also that last night Stacey and I officially started our book club! We could not find enough available copies of Persuasion so we are starting with Emma, and I couldn't be more thrilled- after all, they did start out with Emma in the movie as well. :)

And what is really great, is that once we finish the book- we are going to watch the 1996 film Emma with Gwyneth Paltrow. I will be sure to post a review of both the book and the movie- as well as our intriguing thoughts on both- once we are through. :)

I can't even tell you how happy I am that the weekend is here! It has been a long week. I will definitely be enjoying myself- even more so once this work day is over.

Guest Room/Office Plan.

Thanks to my fellow nesties hollyluv and bryn for the inspiration- I have created my own idea board of our plans for our guest room/office. I tried to incorporate some peices that we already have and also want to make sure mostly neutral colors are used since it's (hopefully) very possible that his room could eventually be our nursery. Here's what I came up with....

Let me try to explain....
I am in love with that chandelier! It's from nestie hollyluv's dining room and it is fabulous. And how cute would that look in the future nursery? :) Next is the desk that I adore with the hutch! However- since it's an antique white I know I could never match the color to a chair- but I'm loving the way it looks with this black chair, and then I will either throw the light blue throw over it or find/make a lt. blue chair cushion. Fab! The peice of furniture next to the desk is a black stand with wicker drawers that we already have so I wanted to incorporate that. As well as the Guinness poster- I'm sure you can all guess the significance of that- but I want to try to mat & frame it and see if it could work in this room. Prints however that will no-matter-what work in this room are the gorgeous Alicia Bock ones shown above. And yep- you guessed it, these would also be able to stay in the nursery. :) As well as the vintage mirror hung by a ribbon. I could possibly make this myself. The picture to the left in the middle is the wall color that I want- a lt. brownish grey that I love.. with accents of the sample of RH's Silver Sage as shown. The bedding is from West Elm and I cannot wait to see it in person! We have a twin bed in this room now, which I'm hoping would be able to stay in a nursery as well. And this bedding is just too perfect. The nightstand shown is similar to this one from Ikea that we would paint black. We already have the black ladder shelf which would look great with white & blue accents and picture frames. Both the lamp and lt. blue rug are from Target. And I forgot to mention the gorgeous Victoria Hagan lt. blue bowl... I want to fill this with white tapered candles... see hollyluv's to-die-for example below!

Surprisingly enough, most of the items are very affordable! I'm estatic that this plan might actually be feasible for us in the near future!

Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want.

I can't say that last night's episode was my favorite of the season so far- well how could it possibly be with a Carrie/Nathan kiss- if you can call it that. It definitely didn't give me what I wanted- leaving me stranded in my thoughts, as much as Peyton and the title. But the adorable Brooke and Jamie scenes did make it worthwhile... they are so sweet together and how cute is he?!?!

It is becoming very obvious that Nathan is not interested in Carrie- which true Naley fans should have known all along. ;) But it is like typical-Nathan to keep it from Haley when she really needs to know what is going on. I'm sure he doesn't want to hurt her, but he needs to man up! It will keep going on until a huge breaking point and Haley will find out on her own- causing them to fight about the fact that Nathan didn't tell her- standard Naley pattern. But in the end- nanny Carrie will be out of their lives nonetheless.

Despite the nanny drama, and Lucas' idoitic actions- I am really liking this season so far. I love Owen and think that he will be great for Brooke. And how cute are Mouth & Millicent-- so adorable. And of course the music last night was truly inspiring. A Fine Frenzy- one of my FAVORITES- were featured, I was extremely happy to hear them! And also the likes of Susie Suh ::who steals me heart every time::, Fiest, the one and only Spoon, and Lucky Soul- last night's episode is a must see.

I really like the direction that Mark is headed this season and am relating to the experiences more than ever. OTH will always have a special place in my heart-- and my tivo.

And don't forget that beginning April 6th OTH will be moving to Monday nights!! AND due to the much-anticpated end of the writer's strike, 6 more episodes have been picked up for season 5! Now that's something to smile about. :)

Keep Calm and Carry On...

Monday, February 18, 2008

Last week was crazy for me at work and at home. I had so many obligations and things to get done, that I just couldn't even take a breath. Needless to say, it had me a bit stressed out. Over the weekend I stumbled across this peice of art and have been repeating it in my head ever since.

I promised myself that from now on when I feel myself getting all riled up- to just think of this saying and take a deep breath! I would love to order this print and hang it in our house.

After researching it a bit, I found out that this peice actually has a lot of history behind it. Very interesting information and makes me want the print even more.
