since my life is a lot less crazy these days,
i am getting back into the routine of setting monthly goals.
however, this time i am expanding it for just autumn in general.
because i'm looking forward to a stress-free, laid back, relaxing life these next few months.

.my autumn list.

visit an apple orchard.
and take photos of my sisters there.
go on a hayride.
take hollie's senior pictures.
make some good dinners.
watch lots of football.
organize my life.
paint our outside railing.
hopefully purchase a new vehicle.
drink cider beer.
celebrate a blessed wedding.
and another one.
cuddle up with lots of tea.
display my polaroids.
get my flickr up to date & organized.
carve a pumpkin.
celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary.
and lots of birthdays.
add lots of updates to my shop.
paint my kitchen door a pretty color.
bake a pie.
buy vintage cowboy boots.
read, read, read.
learn to crochet {someone wanna teach me?}
watch good tv shows.
dress G up for halloween.
wear my purple suede flats.
perfect my cupcake-baking abilities.
be happy.

... starting now.

{pretty picture from here}.

let's get organized.

i should start out by saying that i love organization.
i really do.
it just doesn't easily make it's way into my life.
my life has been beyond crazy lately.
i have been trying really hard to keep things
organized, & in place, & in order.
but, it's hard.

now i am finally making this a priority.
things are winding down for the summer.
i am settling into my new job.
we need a routine.
and i keep envisioning our organized and routine-filled
fall & winter months ahead.
{i. can't. wait.}

and so, i need your help.
first off..

i just bought a copy of Quicken last week
& have been slowly implementing this for our finances.
so far i love it,
but don't know the in's & out's yet.
{getting there...}
any tips & tricks for this?
{i am currently not using the auto-updates which links it to our checking online,
because i thought it was too confusing & not the real balance.
so i'm manually entering everything- basically using it as a checkbook & a bill calendar}
for the physical bills- right now, i have two slots in my organizer on our desk..
1 for the bills that have just come in & i haven't opened yet
and 1 for the bills that i have opened, entered into Quicken & are waiting to be paid.
how do you do this?
how long do you keep hard copies of bills/checks?

.meal planning.
this is something that we desperately need to get better at.
we never know what we are having for dinner until that night at 6 o'clock.
and it's exhausting.
our plan is to start making a set schedule for the week
& hitting up the store every sunday to prepare for the week ahead.
i think this is fairly common?
what is your routine for this like?
i am digging heart of light's meal planner notepads & think they would work for us.
also, what are some of your favorite recipes?
we're in need of some new ones to freshen up our dinners.
& do you tend to make the same things every week?
how often do you switch it up?

yes, this is a weird one.
but something that drives me crazy.
i have a terrible memory and couldn't even tell you what i wore yesterday.
for this very reason,
i need some way of tracking my outfits {mainly just for work everyday}.
this will help me to make sure i am utilizing all available clothing pieces
and not showing up to work in the very outfit i wore two days prior.
hello, embarrasment.
i know this sounds crazy, but it is a serious problem for me.
does anyone have a system for this type of thing that works?
or is no one out there as crazy and memory-stricken as i am?
let's hope not.

.to do lists.
you all know i love a good list.
& i have a constant to-do list going on.
right now i have a little notebook that i carry with me everywhere
to add to and check off as things come about.
the problem with this is that things tend to carry over for weeks sometimes
and i end up flipping between 5 pages just to make sure i have everything done.
not sure that there is a quick fix for this other than to stop procrastinating,
but hey, it was a worth a shot?
how do you keep track of the mumble-jumble of things
that you have to remember to do, buy, call, etc.

this is a biggie for me for obvious reasons.
i have a method that i'm currently using,
but i'm interested to see if there is a better way for me.
both digital & physical photos.
right now i basically store all of my digital photos by date.
this is handy because i can remember when most events were,
but with photo sessions for other people it is getting a bit tricky
and i just don't think it is the most effective.
i'm thinking maybe by year-month-event would be better,
but i also tend to have a huge amount of random photos
& i'm not sure how this will work.
anyway, what do you do?
also, how many of your digital photos do you chose to print physically?
do you have photo albums everywhere?
or just enough to fill frames that you want?
and what about old pre-digital camera photos?
i'm in desperate need of getting those safely tucked away
in a proper order that is easy to find
& easy to grab if our house is burning down!
help. help. help.

do you have a physical address book?
or online? or in your phone?
i have yet to find a method that works good for me in this area.
physical ones are just too much work
& too much to lug around.
my phone doesn't have a good place to store actual addresses
& my aol for sure won't do the trick.
what do you use?
i would love to have something accessible from home & work & on the road?

obviously the most important of all. ;)
my itunes is not very organized right now
{that is on my list}
but how do you keep your physical cds?
do you have physical cds of every song on your itunes?
i don't know about you,
but that's a lot of cds for me!
do you keep them all in your car
or in your house & take as needed to the car?
i'm lacking a system here
because i always have random cds flying everywhere.
which results in cd scratches,
which results in spending way too much money on blank cds.
i have a super extra huge case that would hold a lot,
but i'm not sure i would want that in my car all the time?

whew! that was a lot to get out.
i'm hoping you lovelies out there have some good tips for me!
i'm heading over to real simple in the meantime to see if they have good ideas.

i'm also going to buy this
because i have wanted it forever
& now is the perfect time
to organize my life
& my lists.

so, as you can see, i need help.
lots of it.
any suggestions for my previously mentioned bad areas?
any tips & tricks about any organizing methods?
any amazing organizational pieces i should buy?
i see that etsy has quite the selection of homemade goodies for this.
my husband will thank you dearly!

weekend = yay.

mine is filled with lots of good stuff.
girl's night tonight!
{while the boys are going to their old high school to watch football scrimmages -
yes, this truly excites them} - the girls are having a night in.
complete with wine, adventureland, blankets, & chit chat. {it officially feels like fall}.
& lots of fun stuff tomorrow with husband. & sleeping in.
& getting the house organized. & taking lots of photos. & editing lots of photos.
& record shopping. & listening to music. & stacey's bridal shower.
& reading. & relaxing, relaxing, relaxing.

i just treated myself to some urban outfitters goodies
with some of the $$ i have been saving from the past 5 photo sessions!
i didn't go too overboard, but some good stuff folks:

i have wanted this dress for forever- literally all summer long-
but could never justify the purchase.
well now i need a dress for a very special dinner
& of course i remembered this beaut.
much too summery for what is now fall,
but i simply do not care because i love it.
& this ring that i've been dreaming about, & this everyday tee,
& film for this and this.
and i got some great deals
{via coupon codes luckybreaks09 and freestyle}.

ahhhhh... it has been too long U.O.
too long.

{more polaroids here}.

i can't believe that school is starting already.
but that means that fall is practically here and i couldn't be more thrilled.
aren't my sisters adorable?
this is them on the first day back.
standing where we always stand,
minus our beloved tree
{sniff, sniff}.

hollie is a senior in high school
and kirby is starting her first year in junior high.
oh my goodness.
it doesn't seem possible.

good luck girls!
it almost makes me wish i was going back to school too.

we went to see the dear old cubbies yesterday.
oh how i love them.
almost 21 years exactly since i first stepped foot
into good old Wrigley Field.
i try my darndest to make it back there every year.

yesterday was exactly what i needed.

rode on the L train:

and watched a great game:

and ate chili burgers and drank old style lights.
and ate lots of peanuts & cotton candy:

and, errrr, put cotton candy up our nose?

and spied on them in the dugout:

and cheered and cheered and cheered:

and posed in front of the greatest baseball field in history:

and ate ice cream out of little cubs hats:

and walked all around:

and played skiball at sluggers:

i won because i'm the skiball master.

and we rode the L back:

and we went to our favorite pizza place.
and filled our bellies once again.
and made a pitstop here
{because you just have to}.
and we slept all the way home
{sorry, all except dad, because we needed someone to drive!}
thanks dad.

a great, great day.
i love my family.
i love chicago.
and i love the cubs.

more here.
i can't wait to get my camera back.
these pics are a mishmosh of lots of cameras.

lately has been bad.
just one thing after another for us.
nothing terribly major, but just enough to keep us on edge.
we didn't get the car.
we got screwed out of the cash for clunkers
deal at the last minute.
it was very disappointing.
we did however fall in love with the car.
so we are still going to get it,
just not for a while.

our next door neighbor died.
very suddenly & it's been very sad on our street.
we've been doing what we can for his wife
& attending the services
& hanging out with the family.
it's so surreal when you are used to seeing someone everyday
that you don't even really think twice about it
& then poof, everything changes.
he was a very nice man,
and a dear friend to us.
he loved Guinness and spent lots of time
outside hanging out with him.
we will never forget him.

and a complete list of many other things
that just wouldn't work out in our favor
that i could bore you with...
but i'm trying to move on.
last week sucked.
which leaked into our sucky weekend.
but we are over it.

we did manage to have a good saturday,
despite everything around us.

we got up early & went to farmers market
with mom, hollie, danny & kirby.
we went to our favorite little nearby town.
and perused the shops all afternoon.

and ate $3 chocolate covered strawberries.
that i've been craving ever since.
we bought lots of goodies.
two vintage cameras, really good books,
a sweet little cardigan,
& awesome, awesome sunglasses.

oh yeah & we took lots of polaroids.
can you tell?
then husband & I road-tripped 140 miles
to confirm that yes we are in love with this car.
{hoping for another incentive to help us out}.

we ate at red lobster.
& it was good, good, good.
we talked the whole ride.
mostly about death.
it was sad, but it was a good thing to talk about.
we remembered how lucky we really are
even though stupid things happen in life.

then we pulled over to watch the sunset.

and that my friends is how my husband manages to make me happy
in the midst of crazy, crazy life.

i am learning a lot today...

i am learning that.....

.it's not that easy to take a polaroid of yourself.
.and you will wind up looking really stupid.
.but you won't care.
.that i really love my new bangs {again}.
.that buying a new car makes my heart race.
.that you can lose your life at any second.
.that your heart always knows a true friend from a foe.
.that nice neighbors are worth gold.
.that my husband really is the sweetest.
.that my hair won't hold curls in the summer.
.that getting a good customer service rep is pure magic.
.that i love wearing fuschia lipstick.
.that kathy is sweeter than the sweet tea she just brought me at work.
.that life can be very stressful.
.that i have to remember to b r e a t h e.
