babymoon with a baby

Thursday, October 29, 2015

we went on the sweetest little getaway this fall as a babymoon of sorts. we rented a tiny little cabin on a lake that came with a real cracking fireplace and kayaks for exploring. the timing of our trip could not have been better. i was just entering the third trimester and still feeling that heaven-like second trimester glow. we arrived to a couple of 70+ degree, sunny days and spent them fishing and chasing fireflies at night. then the cold front moved in and we happily bundled up for some early morning kayak rides on the lake, coffee sipping on the deck while the leaves fell all around us, snuggling up to read and roasting marshmallows in the fireplace after dinner. we slept in, marathoned the office episodes, cooked meals together, explored cozy nearby diners, ate more apple pie than you can possibly imagine and even visited nearly lake geneva for a day of exploring. it was such a simple and relaxing week away, which is exactly what we wanted. the only obligations that we had were what activities to do that day (if any) and what to eat for lunch. we made memories in that little house that i will cherish. some last, little adventures as a family of three.

all the fall things

i don't know about you, but we have been having some serious dreamy fall weather here in the midwest and it has been G L O R I O U S. i am so giddy about it. we've busted out all the fall candles, favorite sweaters and scarves and pumpkiny things. mums welcome us home on the front porch and pumpkins have all but taken over our stoop.

snuggling up by the fireplace while sipping a hot mug of tea. sliding around the chilled hardwood floors in thick, cozy wool socks. listening to a crackling record and reading an old book. you've got mail viewings on repeat and leaf collections hand-picked by a curious toddler strewn about the house. and there is something just so special about being pregnant in the fall. slouchy sweaters accented by my protruding baby belly and stealing tastes of the soup for dinner out of the crockpot all dang day. it just doesn't get any better than that.

holy moly, do i love this season.

i couldn't resist a little roundup of some of my very favorite fall things because fall is just toooooo good.
