green thumb?

I have never been big into flowers, plants, gardening, the works. Not that I don't appreciate them, I do, but I just don't have that talent. Lucky for us, our previous owner was big into this and we continue to reap those benefits. However, we have two areas on either side of the stairs to our deck that don't get any sun, have no grass, and it just looks blah. We have talked about going to get something to plant there, but have never got around to it- probably because we don't know what the heck we are doing, haha.

My work was hosting a fundraiser today to raise money by selling flowers, plants, etc. and thought this would be the appropriate time for me to buck up and put in an order. I got a "flat" {I'm assuming this is garden-speak} of Vinca in Pacific Mix and Impatiens in Blue Pearl. Yay me! My co-worker did help me a tad. Here is what they look like:

I think that they compliment each other well. I have no idea how to arrange them or plant them for that matter, but I will figure that out once they get here. For now I am happily rejoicing in the fact that I am adult enough to order flowers to plant in my own backyard. :)

Mmm, I loooove impatiens. They bring so much light and color to the shady parts of my yard. Just keep em watered and not too much direct sunlight and they'll be happy as pie... if they look wilty after a long hot day, don't worry, if they're watered, they'll perk back up in the cool of the night. Good luck!
